Commissioned by the Norwegian Band Fedration and Tom Brevik. Composed in 1991. Elegy and March was one of my first original compositions (no quotations, no folk-tunes) and it was one of my earliest attempts to experiment with form. The elegy-part is quite obvious, but the march is not quite a march. If the elegy-part tells a sad story, then the march should tell a happy story. My problem is that I don´t think life is like that. Result: the march collapses!

Dette stykket ble skrevet på bestilling fra NMF og Stril Music som pliktnummer til kvalifiseringskonkurransen til NM for brass band 1991.
Urfremføringen fant sted ved avslutningskonserten for Norhordland Brass Seminar sin musikksommerskole på Manger og dirigent var Karl Ole Midtbø.
Stykket er tradisjonelt, men bryter allikevel med “tradisjonell” korpsmusikk fordi det låter litt fremmed. Klagesangen er første del og marsjen utgjør andre del. Marsjen får riktignok aldri bli en ordentlig marsj og dermed ender stykket litt uforløst med et lite sitat fra åpningen helt til slutt.
