During the spring of 1999 I composed a song-cycle called «Det andre lyset» based on poems by Stein Mehren (Norway). The songs are separated by instrumental pieces (for trombone, saxophone and piano) which I re-composed into «Light» for trombone and marimba.
Light is in four movements and the music has a «light», divertimento character. Even though I basically use the same themes and figures in the four movements, I try to change colours and moods as the music develops (like light constantly change, but still is the same...). I also find the combination of marimba and trombone very colourful, (but what is a colour without light...)
Våren 1999 komponerte jeg «Det andre lyset», et verk i åtte deler - fire instrumentale stykker og 4 sanger til dikt av Stein Mehren. Den instrumentale delen av dette verket (for trombone, saxofon og piano) lånte jeg av meg selv omarbeidet (og delvis om-komponert) det til «Light» for trombone og marimba.
De fire små satsene har en diverterende. lett og luftig karakter (light = lett). Melodi-figurerene gjennomgår ulike endringer i stemning og farge inspirert av lysets skiftende karakter (light = lys). Fargespillet kommer mest til uttrykk i de mulighetene blandingen av trombone og marimba gir.
