Since 2004 I have composed several pieces for amateur-players/youths from local wind- and brass bands to be played out door in places where the accoustics would work sufficiently. The Third Wave from 2006 (only performed once) also included a professional improviser. The accordionist and composer Jostein Stalheim did the solo part.
The main purpose behind these pieces was to convince myself and everybody else that music for amateur/school wind band and brass band etc. could have an artistic purpose. The players are asked to do what they always do: go out in the village/city centre and play. But this time with music that sounds quite different.
