Commissioned by euphonium player Tor Arne Pedersen and composed in 2004. The piece is a part of a cycle of works exploring different aspects of lyric music played by brass instrument. The first Cantilena is scored for solo trombone and wind band, the third for three trombones and wind ensemble.
